Beluga is a family business. Jonah, the CEO, is a board certified family physician who spent his career widening access to care, including some of the early physician work in direct to consumer telehealth as the category took shape. Jake, the CTO, is his brother, an engineer who architected the clinical workflow engine, pharmacy routing, integration layer, and partner dashboard in house.

The family business framing matters because it shapes how decisions get made. That structure produces a particular kind of company: stable, deliberate, and willing to say no to revenue that is not the right revenue.

The thread runs back further than telehealth. Global health work. Community health worker programs with the WHO. Underserved communities in West Philadelphia and migrant populations in Israel. Population health initiatives designed to widen access and reduce cost burden. When direct to consumer telehealth took shape, it was not a pivot from that work. It was the same mission in a new medium: use the technology already in everyone's hands to route around the supply and access constraints baked into the legacy medical system.

Beluga is that thesis, generalized. The model that started in lifestyle medicine works just as well for preventive and population health, inside health systems, and more importantly, for the people the legacy system leaves outside them. That is why the same infrastructure serves a DTC brand, an established operator, and a health plan closing HEDIS gaps. The access problem is the same problem. We just keep pointing the same engine at it.
